Child Sex Trafficker Last Seen in Birmingham Vanishes on Bail

Police are urgently searching for a convicted child sex trafficker who was last seen in Birmingham and has vanished after being granted bail.

Conviction and Disappearance

Sharam Muhamadi, 21, was found guilty of two counts of arranging or facilitating the travel of another person with a view to exploitation on Tuesday, June 9. However, he was convicted in his absence after failing to appear at Sheffield Crown Court for his trial, which began on Monday, May 18.

Muhamadi was initially remanded in custody between being charged and the start of the trial. But after a successful bail application by his defense team, he disappeared. South Yorkshire Police have been searching for him ever since but were unable to appeal to the public until the trial concluded due to reporting restrictions.

Police believe he traveled to Birmingham New Street Station by train between Saturday, May 16, and Monday, May 18. Officers from South Yorkshire Police, working alongside West Midlands Police, have conducted extensive enquiries, including reviewing hours of CCTV and phone records, and patrolling streets with his photo.

They have shown commendable bravery throughout our investigation and the complex trial. We are wholly focused on finding Muhamadi and ensuring he faces the consequences of his actions.”

She added: “We believe he is still in the country, but if he is found abroad, we will seek the Government’s help to extradite him. We will not stop until we find him, and we will ensure these young girls get the justice they deserve.”
