Thousands of college workers across North Wales have volunteered their time and raised almost £8,000 for charity. Staff from across Grŵp Llandrillo Menai took part in a wide variety of community challenges, with the main fundraising efforts supporting Wales Air Ambulance as the college group's chosen charity.
Diverse Community Challenges
Participants laced up their walking boots, rode bicycles, played golf, and picked up litter in the heatwave. In Llandudno, engineering and motor vehicle manager Tim Peel led a team picking up litter. The Coleg Llandrillo workers cleared rubbish along the Great Orme Toll Road.
Another group of staff organised a charity golf day in Rhos-on-Sea during the event. The day included specific competitions such as closest to the pin and the straightest drive.
Supporting Local Communities
On Anglesey, workers from Coleg Menai gave up their time to help the community directly. They spent their volunteering hours working at the Holyhead Foodbank warehouse. Further south, walkers in Eryri National Park might have spotted college staff on bikes. Colleagues from Coleg Meirion-Dwyfor cycled the 75-mile long Brailsford Way route.
Coast-to-Care Relay Raises Over £6,500
A separate team also organised a special relay event over July 2 and July 3. The Coast-to-Care Relay team raised more than £6,500 so far for two children's health charities. Money from the 82-mile challenge will support Alder Hey Children’s Charity and Awyr Las.
According to Grŵp Llandrillo Menai, the total raised from all activities was almost £8,000. The volunteering day and relay challenge demonstrate the college's commitment to community engagement and charitable causes across North Wales, with locations including Bangor, Rhos-on-Sea, and Dolgellau.
