A fundraiser has been launched following the sudden death of grandmother Veronica Sealey, 54, who was found unresponsive on her bathroom floor at her Yardley home and pronounced dead by paramedics at the scene.
On Wednesday (October 21), Denica Nelson was told by her sister that their mother had sent dozens of missed calls and voice notes in the late hours of the morning. A neighbour was alerted to the home, where Sealey was discovered unresponsive.
Long battle with kidney disease
Sealey was born with polycystic kidney disease and had been on dialysis for eight years. For years, the grandmother-of-two had been on a waiting list for a kidney transplant, but passed before the operation could take place.
Speaking to BirminghamLive, Denica said her mother seemed normal when they spoke for the last time on Tuesday night (October 20). She said: "I spoke to her on Tuesday night and she was fine, she didn't say anything about her breathing or her health. She said she still felt young and had a lot of live yet."
Final wish for horse and carriage
Launching a fundraiser, money raised will go towards Veronica's final wishes of having horses and carriages at her funeral. Denica said: "Any funds I can raise will go towards my mom's funeral. My mom always said to me and my sister that she wanted a horse and carriage when she passed."
"She wanted white horses with everyone dressed in white and the women wearing lipstick. You'd never see my mom without red lipstick, those were her words about her funeral."
Sealey had spoken about being hooked up to dialysis three times a week and said she was going to write a book about what patients go through.
Family's grief
Denica said her eight-year-old son has found it hard to process the loss. She said: "My son's only eight and it's been hard for him to process it, he burst into tears when I told him. He thinks donations from the fundraiser will bring his nanny back. I don't think he realises that nanny isn't going to come back."
"My mom was a lovely woman and she deserves the send-off which I know I am going to give her." Donations to the fundraiser will support the funeral arrangements.
