Dog lovers across Suffolk are invited to enter their pets into a local competition to find the county's top dog. The event, organized by an independent animal charity, aims to raise vital funds to support mistreated and abandoned animals, giving them a second chance at life.
Event Details and Activities
Scheduled for Sunday, September 6, at the Martlesham Animal Centre on 2 Mill Lane in Woodbridge, the event will feature food stalls, refreshments, and craft stands alongside a selection of pet gifts. A raffle and tombola will also take place during the afternoon, complementing the main competition rings. The charity provides rehoming services and low-cost veterinary treatments to thousands of animals across the region.
Competition Categories and Prizes
The competition includes eight categories, such as crossbreed with character, happiest hound, and marvellous mover. There are also classes for senior dogs over eight years old and rescue animals. Prizes will be awarded throughout the day, including rosettes, vouchers, and treats for top performers. The overall winner will receive a trophy and a luxury hamper.
Lorna Goodwin, corporate and community fundraiser, said: “We love our dog shows and really enjoy meeting everyone’s dogs, they really are all the goodest boys and girls! But if you think your dog really is the best in Suffolk, this is your time to prove it!”
Charity Impact and Registration
The local group operates as an independent charity relying on donations to fund its daily rescue work. Last year, the branch helped nearly 3,000 animals receive medication, clinical care, and new homes. Entry costs £3 per class or three classes for £8 per dog. Organizers hope the community will come out to support this vital cause.
