As winter tightens its grip, a Dover homelessness charity has launched a vital campaign to bring comfort and essential supplies to people sleeping rough on local streets this Christmas.
What the Blessing Bag Appeal Needs
Emmaus Dover has officially launched its Blessing Bag appeal, calling upon the generosity of the local community. The charity is collecting specific essential items that will be packed into red outreach bags and distributed directly to those in need during the challenging winter months.
The charity has provided a clear list of requested items to ensure donations have the greatest impact. The most needed articles include deodorant, toothpaste and toothbrushes, wet wipes, and warm winter accessories like hats, scarves, and gloves. The list also includes socks, small torches, and sleeping bags.
While donations of clothing can be new or preloved, Emmaus Dover kindly requests that all second-hand items are clean and in good, wearable condition, free from stains or holes. For strict hygiene reasons, the charity can only accept new, unused toiletries and is unable to take any food, drinks, or other perishable goods.
Making a Tangible Difference This Winter
Gerry Golden, Retail Manager for Emmaus Dover, emphasised the profound importance of community support. "We are reaching out to our incredible supporters to help us protect those sleeping rough this winter," he said.
"Donations of simple, yet vital items, like warm socks, torches, and toiletries, packed into these Blessing Bags make a tangible difference. They provide not just physical warmth, but a genuine message of care to people facing the toughest time of the year."
The charity's mission extends beyond this immediate appeal. Emmaus Dover is dedicated to transforming lives by offering people who have experienced homelessness a safe home, personalised support, and meaningful work opportunities. Residents, known as companions, rebuild their skills and confidence through the charity's sustainable social enterprises.
How You Can Donate
The community has a limited window to contribute to this vital cause. All Blessing Bag donations must be dropped off by December 17.
Items can be delivered to the charity's base at: Emmaus Dover, Archcliffe Fort, Archcliffe Road, Dover, CT17 9EL.
