A creative programme in Dudley is using art and friendship to combat loneliness, thanks to a new funding boost. The Bedazzle art group has been awarded a £2,000 grant from GreenSquareAccord's Community Impact Fund to continue its work supporting adults who are retired, unemployed, or living with long-term health conditions.
Art classes offer more than creativity
The 10-week art programme, based on Priory Road, offers guided activities in a supportive environment. Ben Cole, operations lead at Bedazzle, said the sessions have become essential for participants. "The adult art group has become much more than an art class," he said. "Participants have described the sessions as a vital source of routine and social connection, helping to reduce feelings of loneliness and improve confidence and wellbeing."
Around 25 adults regularly attend the sessions, with nearly half living in GreenSquareAccord homes. The funding covers the cost of a professional arts facilitator, materials, venue hire, and refreshments.
Funding recognises community need
Sian Every, social value and community investment lead at GreenSquareAccord, said the organisation is pleased to support the initiative. "We're delighted to support Bedazzle and help ensure the art group can continue making a positive difference to people in Dudley," she said. "The positive feedback received from participants and the high volume of regular attendees shows a real need for this initiative in the local community."
GreenSquareAccord owns and manages 25,000 homes across the West Midlands and South West. The organisation focuses on providing affordable housing and involving residents in shaping the services it delivers within their communities.
