Ex-Police Officer Tackles 100km Peak District Walk for Charity
Ex-Officer Walks 100km for Police Families Charity

Jamie Farrell, a former Chesterfield police officer who served with Derbyshire Constabulary for 14 years, is stepping far outside his comfort zone to tackle a gruelling 100km non-stop walk through the Peak District on Saturday, July 4. Having recently turned 40, Farrell decided to skip the usual parties and holidays, choosing instead to mark the milestone by completing three increasingly difficult walking challenges, culminating in this weekend's epic ultra-challenge.

Self-Funded Effort to Support Police Families

Farrell is self-funding the entire event to raise vital funds for Care of Police Survivors (COPS), a dedicated charity that supports the families of police officers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. "Although Jamie is no longer in policing, it's a cause that remains very close to his heart," said his partner, who contacted InYourArea to share his story. "Spending so many years in the job, he saw first-hand the devastating impact that losing an officer can have on both families and colleagues."

Personal Connection to the Cause

The reality of those dangers was brought home to the entire policing community following the recent tragic on-duty death of 19-year-old PC Jess Turnbull. While public attention heavily focuses on the immediate tragedy, charities like COPS step in behind the scenes to provide the long-term, ongoing support that grieving families need to rebuild their lives. Because Farrell is covering all his own event costs, every single penny donated will go directly to the frontline charity.

Fundraising Goal and How to Help

He is hoping to raise awareness for the cause and push past his initial £1,000 fundraising target. To support Farrell's incredible effort and track his progress, donations can be made via his JustGiving page. The former officer admits he "won't even run for an ice-cream van," making this extreme endurance test a true departure from his usual activities.
