For more than ten years, a house on Beverstone Road in South Cerney, near Cirencester, has become a beacon of festive cheer and community spirit, all in support of a vital local cause.
A Dazzling Tribute to a Beloved Matriarch
The Wearing family meticulously transforms their home each December into a spectacular Christmas lights extravaganza. This heartfelt tradition is dedicated to the memory of Sandra Wearing, a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother. The family was profoundly impacted by the palliative care Sandra received at Sue Ryder's Leckhampton Court Hospice in Cheltenham, which inspired their ongoing fundraising efforts.
To date, this popular annual event has generated an impressive more than £8,350 for the charity. Every single donation from visitors goes directly to fund Sue Ryder's essential palliative and bereavement support services.
New Additions to a Labour of Love
Creating the display is a true family project, led by Kelvin Wearing alongside his daughter Debbie and other relatives. Debbie revealed that this year's spectacle features four new inflatables, with three of them animated. Highlights include a giant present with a snowman popping out and even a helicopter suspended in the garden.
"It's a real labour of love," Debbie explained, noting that the family takes over a month to assemble the entire festive scene. She added, "The hospice was absolutely great and the care my mum received was second to none. I have the utmost respect for all the staff who supported our family at such a difficult time."
A Community Event with Heart
The display has become a much-anticipated fixture in the local calendar, drawing people together to enjoy the twinkling lights and glittering scenes. Alysia Cameron-Price, Community Fundraising Manager for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, expressed her gratitude.
"I would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Kelvin, Debbie and the rest of the family for their continued support," she said. "Not only have their wonderful illuminations brought joy to the local community for over a decade, but the money they raise means that we can continue to provide care to people when they need it most."
The festive lights are open for the community to enjoy daily from 4.30pm to 8.30pm, and will remain illuminated until New Year's Day, 1 January 2026. Donations to the hospice at the scene are gratefully received.
