Football Fives, a charity five-a-side football tournament supporting Tŷ Hafan, is returning to Cardiff on Thursday, September 24. The all-day event at Gol on Lawrenny Avenue will see 25 teams compete for the trophy, with food, drinks, and an awards ceremony following the matches.
Tournament Format and Teams
The competition begins with a round-robin league where teams play for positions in Champions League, Europa League, and ECL stages. It then moves to knockout phases, culminating in semi-finals and a final. Each team consists of eight players: one goalkeeper, four outfield players, and three substitutes. Last year’s winners were Whitehead Building Services, with the trophy presented by Wales and Cardiff City legend Joe Ledley.
A Message from the Organisers
Kelly Dibble, corporate fundraising manager at Tŷ Hafan, said: “No family should have to live their child’s short life alone. By taking part in our Football Fives, you’ll be helping Tŷ Hafan walk alongside every family who needs us.” She added that participants need not have a full team sorted immediately, as details will be collected closer to the event. “You’ll also get the opportunity to network with other teams and enjoy a great day of fun and football,” she said.
Sponsorship and Community Support
The event is sponsored by V12 Retail Finance. Managing director Andrew Phillips commented: “At V12 Retail Finance, we’re incredibly proud to continue our sponsorship for Football Fives and emphasise our support of the outstanding work carried out by Tŷ Hafan. This event is about far more than football; it’s about bringing businesses and communities together to make a genuine difference to the lives of children with life-shortening conditions and their families.” He noted that seeing colleagues get involved and fundraise with such enthusiasm is something they are immensely proud of, adding that they look forward to making this year’s tournament the biggest and most successful yet.
