Eight members of Strong Minds FC, a charity football team, finished an exhausting 251-kilometre overnight relay run from Cardiff Castle to Conwy Castle, raising £11,500 for Hope House Tŷ Gobaith, a hospice supporting children with life-threatening conditions.
Relay Details and Support
The team took turns running five-kilometre stints between June 26 and June 27, supported by a dedicated crew. A large crowd of friends, family, and hospice staff gathered at Conwy Quay to celebrate their finish. The runners endured blisters and fatigue but were motivated by the cause.
Team Member's Account
Craig Wilkinson of Strong Minds FC said: “We covered 251km in a relay of roughly 5km at a time with support from our back-up crew. Countless blisters, pure grit.” He added: “Running in to see that incredible crowd and our families waiting for us made every single painful step worth it. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts to everyone who donated, cheered us on from the roadside, and followed our journey online.”
Hospice Fundraiser's Reaction
Nikki Sullivan, hospice fundraiser, said: “The guys from Strong Minds FC showed true heart with this run. The planning, training and physical effort all to help local children and families facing the unknown is admirable.” She continued: “It was amazing to join them in Conwy and help to raise awareness of Hope House Tŷ Gobaith’s mission to reach every local child living with a life-threatening condition. Thank you so much to you all.”
Future Plans
The team has already confirmed plans for their next major fundraising event in 2027.
