Foundations Furniture has issued a new appeal for unwanted household items to help improve living conditions for financially struggling families across Tyne and Wear. The charity will collect preloved furniture, appliances, and white goods for free from homes every weekday, then sell them at low prices in its store on Askew Road West in Gateshead.
How the Campaign Works
Local players of the People's Postcode Lottery have made the initiative possible by raising funds through the Postcode Neighbourhood Trust. Items such as sofas, wardrobes, and kitchen appliances are accepted. The scheme aims to support people recovering from homelessness, escaping domestic abuse, or coping with high living costs. According to organisers, approximately six million people across the UK currently live without basic items needed for a safe and comfortable home.
Community Support Needed
“We really want the local community to consider donating their unwanted items,” said a spokesperson for Foundations Furniture. “Maybe they are replacing a sofa or have an extra bed and mattress they no longer use. If it’s still in good condition, a local household struggling with the cost of living, or who have experienced crisis, can greatly benefit.”

By raising awareness of its free collection service, Foundations Furniture hopes to continue providing essential items to those in greatest need.
