Sam and Gavin Faulkner have completed a four-race running challenge, raising £1,465 for the Cardiac Care Unit at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest. The fundraising effort was undertaken in memory of Sam's father, who died in July 2023 after several heart attacks.
Four endurance races completed
The couple took on the Porthcawl 10k, the Great North Run, and the Cardiff Half Marathon, before finishing with the Silverstone Circuit 10k. The final race was particularly poignant, as it took place on Sam's father's birthday in the village where he grew up.
Sam said: "I lost my Dad in July 2023 to several heart attacks and have made a personal commitment to doing something to raise money for the Cardiac Care Unit at Withybush Hospital in Haverfordwest every year in Dad's memory."
Gratitude from hospital charity
Katie Hancock, fundraising officer at Hywel Dda Health Charities, praised the couple's dedication. "We'd like to say well done to Sam and Gavin for completing this incredible challenge," she said.
"Thank you so much for dedicating your time to once again raise funds for the Cardiac Care Unit, we are so grateful for your support."
Hancock also highlighted the wider impact of community fundraising: "The support of our local communities enables us to provide services over and above what the NHS can provide in the three counties of Hywel Dda and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive."
Supporting local NHS services
The funds raised will support the Cardiac Care Unit at Withybush Hospital, part of Hywel Dda University Health Board. The charity provides additional services for NHS patients and staff across Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, and Pembrokeshire.
