As the festive season approaches, a leading animal charity is issuing a heartfelt plea for support to ensure vulnerable animals are not forgotten. Freshfields Animal Rescue has officially launched its Christmas Appeal under the banner Your Present, Their Future.
A Season of Contrasts: Joy for Some, Fear for Others
Deb Hughes, responsible for funding and PR at Freshfields, highlighted the stark contrast Christmas can bring. "Christmas can be a time of joy and togetherness," she said. "For many, it's a time for family and being with the ones you love. For cold, frightened and abandoned animals, sadly, it's just another day, not knowing if this is the best life will get for them."
She emphasised the critical role the charity and its supporters play: "We dread to think what would become of these poor animals without us, and without you. We are the closest thing they have to the protection of a family and a safe place to live."
The Scale of the Crisis and a Chance to Double Your Impact
The need for their work has never been greater. It is estimated that a staggering 1.1 million pets are homeless across the UK. Pets are surrendered daily due to long-term owner illness, financial hardship, relationship breakdowns, and homelessness, with many families now unable to afford essential veterinary care.
In response, Freshfields is offering donors a powerful incentive. Until December 8, every donation will be doubled by a dedicated group of supporters and friends, meaning one donation has twice the impact.
Every contribution, regardless of size, makes a tangible difference. It can provide:
- A meal for a hungry animal.
- A warm, safe bed for the scared and cold.
- Veterinary care to alleviate pain.
- Hope for a future in a loving, forever home.
"Your donation today will save lives tomorrow," the charity states.
Transforming Lives Since 1979
Thanks to public generosity, Freshfields has a remarkable legacy. Deb Hughes added: "The public have helped Freshfields Animal Rescue to change almost 100,000 animals' lives since we first opened our doors in 1979."
This support enables the charity to provide comprehensive care, including:
Safety, warmth, love, and excellent medical treatment for every animal.
The compassion and gentle encouragement needed to help traumatised animals trust humans again.
Freedom from pain and fear, and the hope of a permanent, loving home.
"Together, we can transform their lives," Deb urged. "Together, we can protect the animals and keep our doors open to welcome more vulnerable animals in need of our care. This Christmas, your gift to these animals is their future!"
