More than 800 runners, walkers, and wheelers turned Bute Park into a sea of support on Sunday, July 19, as the first 'Show Cancer The V' fun run raised over £80,000 for Velindre Cancer Service. Organised by Velindre Cancer Charity, the inclusive event featured three wheelchair- and pram-friendly routes of 1.5km, 5km, and 10km, alongside a quiet run for those needing a calmer environment.
Funds to Support Cancer Care
Every pound raised will go directly to Velindre Cancer Service, which cares for a population of 1.7 million people across south-east Wales. Donations will fund specialist equipment, children's resources, complementary therapies, clinical psychologists, counsellors, and more than 40 ongoing clinical trials.
Famous Faces Join the Cause
Welsh rugby legend and charity president Jonathan 'Jiffy' Davies OBE completed the 5km walk, while comedian Rhod Gilbert, who received treatment at Velindre after his own diagnosis, and former Wales and British & Irish Lions captain Sam Warburton also took part. They were joined by dedicated staff, patients, and local families.
Sponsorship and Event Village
Cardiff-headquartered private hire technology business Veezu was the headline sponsor, with 40 colleagues participating and offering discounted journeys to help attendees reach the start line. The event village featured live music, food vendors, photo points, and a Wellbeing Tent.
