More than 20 staff members from Gulliver's Kingdom in Matlock Bath have raised £5,000 for charity by completing a 21-kilometre trek across the Derbyshire countryside. The team walked from their resort through Bonsall, Winster, and Elton before finishing in Bakewell.
Team effort with a Pokémon twist
The walkers included theme park leaders alongside full-time and seasonal workers, joined by a dog named Max. Participants embraced a Pokémon theme throughout the day in support of 13-year-old Noah, a friend of the Gulliver's family who is currently undergoing cancer treatment.
Money raised from the event will be split evenly between two causes. Half will support the Alternative Activity Centre, a local organisation providing social opportunities and care for adults with special educational needs and disabilities. The remaining half will go to the Teenage Cancer Trust in honour of Noah.
Community spirit praised
Organisers said the challenge brought colleagues together while demonstrating the strong community spirit within the theme park team. Hannah Marsden, resort manager at Gulliver's Kingdom, said: "We are incredibly proud of everyone who took part in this challenge. The walk was a fantastic team effort and it was wonderful to see colleagues from across the business, alongside family members and even Max my dog, come together to support two very special charities."
She added: "The Pokémon theme was inspired by Noah, who is a much-loved friend of the Gulliver's family. We wanted to do something that reflected his interests while raising money for causes that make a real difference to people's lives."
