A young Harry Potter fan who dreamed of stepping into the world of Hogwarts has become one of the first children to have her wish granted through a brand new hospice service.
Twelve-year-old Phoebe-Faith Gyves enjoyed a magical family trip to the Warner Bros. Studio Tour London where she explored the famous movie sets. The memorable experience was made possible through Derian Wishes, a new project launched by Derian House Children's Hospice.
The initiative is designed to help make dreams come true for every seriously ill child and young person receiving care from the charity.
Based in Astley Village, Chorley, the hospice supports more than 400 babies, children and young people across the North West.
Wishes Big and Small
Wishes can be big or small, from meeting a hero or enjoying a dream day out to receiving a special gift.
To help bring these ideas to life, the charity has created a dedicated Wishmaker role to work closely with local families.
Another of the first wishes granted was for six-year-old Isla Pemberton, whose dream was to own a Nintendo Switch and Super Mario games.
On her recent birthday, Isla was surprised at home with a beautifully gift-wrapped box containing her exact wish.
More than 90 wishes have already been submitted by local families, ranging from sensory toys to holidays at Disneyland Paris.
Three wishes have already been granted so far, and dozens more are currently in the making.
The launch of the service coincides with Children's Hospice Week, which celebrates the vital role these centres play.
Family Joy
Phoebe-Faith's mum, Rachel Matthews, said: "We had such a fantastic time - Harry Potter was amazing and we saw all of the characters. It was the best weekend we have had in a long time."
"We went on the London Eye, had a boat trip on the River Thames and did some shopping. Phoebe-Faith loved it. It was nice to spend time together, just the four of us, away from home."
Isla's mum, Rachel Pemberton, said: "Thank you so much for gifting Isla a Nintendo Switch, and Mario and Luigi, just in time for her birthday. It has meant so much to us. Seeing her smiling and enjoying herself is magical."
"Your kindness and generosity are truly appreciated, and we are incredibly grateful as always. Thank you to everyone at Derian House who made this happen."
Creating Lasting Memories
Gillian Rabbett, from Derian House Children's Hospice, said: "A wish can be so much more than a special day or a gift; it can bring happiness, hope, and precious family memories that last a lifetime."
"We loved seeing Phoebe-Faith and Isla's happy faces, and there will be so many more. Through Derian Wishes, we want every child and young person in our care to have the chance to experience something truly meaningful to them."
"We're incredibly excited to begin making dreams come true and creating even more magical moments for our families."
