Tyddyn Isaf Caravan Park, overlooking Lligwy Bay near Moelfre, has raised more than £4,000 for local lifeboat volunteers during a special golden anniversary celebration. The milestone event, attended by guests and caravan owners, featured live music, games, and fundraising activities to support the crew at RNLI Moelfre Lifeboat Station.
The money raised will help the volunteer rescue team continue their vital work saving lives along the Anglesey coastline. The park, owned and managed by the same family for half a century, has grown from bare agricultural fields into a respected holiday destination, now cared for by the third and fourth generations.
Family values and community support
Hayley Mount-Leonard of Tyddyn Isaf said: "We're still a traditional family business with traditional values, and maintaining that is really important to us. Fifty years ago, Tyddyn Isaf was bare windswept fields. Four generations later, we're welcoming families whose grandparents came here as children. We look after Tyddyn, but it's our guests who fill it with life, and none of this would exist without them."
Park owner Arthur Mount added: "Fifty years, and what has made them special is the people we've welcomed to Tyddyn Isaf. Every event we've ever planned here has exceeded our expectations, and that's never been down to us… it's down to the generosity of our wonderful customers standing here today. People tell us we work hard. The truth is I've never worked a day in my life. We are extraordinarily lucky to be here, doing this, in a place like this; and luckier still that so many of the same families keep coming back to share it with us."
Supporting the volunteer lifeboat crew has been a core tradition for the business, generating tens of thousands of pounds for the station over many years. Hayley explained: "Living and working on this coast, you understand exactly what the Moelfre crew do. They drop everything and head out in the worst conditions imaginable so that other people get home safely. Our guests swim, walk, paddle and sail along this coast every summer. Supporting Moelfre has never felt like charity — it feels like looking after our own."
Quiz trail and fundraising fun
Visitors at the anniversary event enjoyed an educational family quiz trail highlighting the heritage of Anglesey, with top performers winning discounts on future pitch fees. The Nadin family took first place, securing a 10% discount off their pitch fees after holidaying at the park for 36 years.
One member of the Nadin family said: "In 1990 we first came to Tyddyn Isaf for a two-week holiday … 36 years later we are still coming. Our two children grew up holidaying here, and they still come. When we heard there was a quiz we decided to rise to the challenge, never thinking we had a chance of winning. I was totally gobsmacked, and it opened our eyes to things we didn't know about."
Mel and Justin Schofield took second place, receiving a 5% discount on their stay. The Schofields added: "The quiz was a wonderful tribute to the heritage and history of Tyddyn Isaf and its deep connection to the local area. More than just a quiz, it brought people together, teams debating answers, sharing memories and exploring the local area in search of clues. The competitive spirit truly reflected the community values that have defined Tyddyn Isaf for 50 years."
Celebrations and ongoing support
The afternoon featured live music, face painting, children's games, a raffle, and a popular visit from a group of Highland cows. Park owners Hayley and Simon even volunteered to go into the stocks, letting guests hurl wet sponges to collect extra cash for the charity. A massive three-tier cake was served for donations, alongside raffle prizes donated by generous local traders from across the island.
Hayley commented: "The generosity was phenomenal, from the guests who donated prizes, to the volunteers who gave up their day, to every single person who turned out in the rain. Reaching 50 years as a family business is incredibly special in itself, but to be able to mark that milestone surrounded by so many of the people who have been part of Tyddyn Isaf's story, while raising over £4,000 for Moelfre Lifeboat, made the day mean even more."
