St Kentigern Hospice is calling on people across North Wales to fill Rhyl Pavilion Theatre for what will be the charity's largest and most ambitious fundraising event to date. A Grand Night for Music is scheduled for Saturday, September 26, 2026, and will bring together the world-famous Brighouse and Rastrick Brass Band and celebrated Welsh male voice choir Côr Godre’r Aran for an evening of live music.
The concert will be hosted by S4C presenter Dilwyn Morgan, with all proceeds supporting St Kentigern Hospice and the free specialist care it provides to local patients and their families. The event represents a significant milestone for the hospice, which has served communities across Denbighshire, West Flintshire and East Conwy for more than three decades.
World-class performers unite for hospice
Brighouse and Rastrick is widely regarded as one of the most successful and recognisable brass bands in the world. The band is particularly known for its recording of The Floral Dance, which sold more than one million copies and remained at number two in the UK charts for six weeks. They will be joined by Côr Godre’r Aran, one of Wales's most celebrated male voice choirs, combining the power and precision of world-class brass with the unmistakable sound of Welsh choral music.
Mark Connelly, fundraising manager at St Kentigern Hospice, described the event as a huge leap of faith for the charity. "This is the largest fundraising event St Kentigern Hospice has ever attempted, and it represents a huge leap of faith for our charity," he said. "To bring performers of this calibre together at Rhyl Pavilion Theatre is an extraordinary opportunity, but the evening is about much more than music."
Every ticket makes a difference
Connelly emphasised the direct impact of ticket sales on the hospice's services. "Every ticket sold will help St Kentigern Hospice continue caring for local people living with life-limiting illnesses and supporting their families through some of the most difficult moments of their lives," he said. "We need the people of North Wales to get behind us, fill the theatre and show just how strongly our community values local hospice care."
He added that a full auditorium would create an incredible atmosphere and make a genuine difference to patients and families who rely on the hospice. The charity provides a range of services including a 12-bed inpatient unit, Wellbeing Hwb, dementia support and practical and emotional support for patients, carers and families.
Hospice relies on community generosity
All hospice services are provided free of charge, but delivering them costs approximately £4.6 million each year. Only a proportion of this funding comes from statutory sources, leaving the hospice heavily reliant on fundraising, donations and the generosity of its local community. Connelly noted that most people know someone whose life has been touched by hospice care, and described the concert as an opportunity to enjoy a truly exceptional evening while helping ensure that compassionate, specialist care remains available locally.
