A dedicated manager at Coleg Cambria has reached the halfway mark in an ambitious 1,000-mile walking challenge to support a local homelessness charity. Kate Muddiman, who leads work-based learning at the college, has already covered 500 miles on foot, raising funds for Soul Kitchen Chester through early morning laps, evening hikes, family climbs, and weekend walks to her volunteering shifts.

A Gruelling Journey Across Cheshire

Muddiman's trek has taken her from major city streets in Chester to scenic coastal paths and countryside hills. She has logged every mile on the fitness app Strava, enduring blisters, worn-out boots, and challenging weather conditions. Her route has included cold, wet days alone and early mornings during a heatwave, but she remains determined to complete the full 1,000 miles.

Support from Family and Friends

Family, friends, and colleagues have regularly joined Muddiman on her walks to keep her spirits high. She noted that their company has made a significant difference, though many segments have been tackled solo. Her previous challenge was an 870-mile trek around the Wales Coast Path, which raised around £1,500 for Cancer Research UK after her uncle passed away from the disease.

Quote from Kate Muddiman

"I've gone through a few blisters, a second pair of walking boots and a second pair of trainers already. I've been lucky enough to have family and friends join me on many of the walks, which has made such a difference, but there have also been plenty of cold, wet days on my own, as well as early mornings and late evenings during the heatwave," Muddiman said. "Every mile has been logged on Strava, and reaching 500 miles feels like a real milestone. There's still a long way to go, but I'm determined to finish. Thank you to everyone who has supported me so far. Every donation, message and word of encouragement really does keep me putting one foot in front of the other."
