Launceston College in Cornwall has raised £791.44 for Cancer Research UK during its annual sports day, which also saw several long-standing track and field records broken. Students and staff hosted a variety of fundraising stalls alongside the main competition to collect the sum for the charity.
New Records and House Victory
The day featured outstanding athletic performances, with Hepworth House taking the main prize as overall champions after a full day of friendly competition. Year 9 pupil Misha set a new record in the boys' long jump with a leap of 5.07m, while Year 9 pupil Bethany threw 25.1m in the girls' javelin. Year 10 pupil Sam completed the boys' 400m in 1:01.87, securing their places in the school’s history books.
Community Support and Fundraising
The Mayor of Launceston, Councillor Nicola Gilbert, attended the event to support the young people and organisers. The celebration reflected a strong community spirit, bringing everyone together through sport and charitable giving. Fundraising stalls included face painting, which contributed to the total raised for Cancer Research UK.

Raising almost £800 for Cancer Research UK is a fantastic achievement, and we are incredibly grateful to everyone who donated or helped make the day such a success. We are also delighted to have seen so many outstanding sporting performances, including several new school records.”
