A heartwarming community fundraising initiative in Llanddarog has successfully generated £3,000 to support the dermatology department at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli. The generous donation was presented by organisers Julie Standeven, Peter Howells, and Ffion Howells to Ceri Wisdom and the dedicated dermatology team, highlighting the powerful impact of local charitable efforts.
Gratitude Drives Community Fundraising Success
The fundraising supper night was orchestrated by Julie Standeven, who serves as president of Sioe Llanddarog. Her motivation stemmed from a deeply personal place of gratitude for the exceptional care she received as a patient within the dermatology department. With the steadfast support of the Sioe Llanddarog committee, the community came together for a memorable evening designed to give back.
A Themed Evening of Celebration and Support
Held at the Llanddarog Village Hall in October, the event embraced a lively Sounds of the 70s theme. Attendees enjoyed a delicious buffet and participated in fancy dress, creating a festive atmosphere dedicated to a noble cause. Crucially, all proceeds from the evening were divided equally between supporting the annual Sioe Llanddarog Show and the vital work of the Prince Philip Hospital dermatology department.
Reflecting on the event and the care that inspired it, Julie Standeven expressed profound thanks. “As a family we are very grateful for all the care and support I have received since my first appointment in March 2023,” she said. “I would also like to thank everyone who supported and donated at the event.”
Hospital Staff Express Profound Appreciation
The donation was met with immense gratitude from hospital staff. Ceri Wisdom, the service delivery manager for the dermatology department, emphasised the significance of such community support. “We are truly grateful for the time, energy and compassion that went into this fundraising,” Wisdom stated. “Your kindness and dedication will help make a real difference to our patients and the work we do every day.”
Nicola Llewelyn, head of Hywel Dda Health Charities, which supports the local health board, underscored the broader importance of these contributions. “The support of our local communities enables us to provide services above and beyond what the NHS can offer,” she explained, “and we are extremely grateful for every donation we receive.”
This event stands as a powerful testament to how personal experience and community spirit can unite to provide substantial support for essential NHS services, ensuring they can continue to deliver outstanding care to patients in need.
