As 2026 gets underway, the Rotary Club of Llandudno is taking stock of a remarkably successful year defined by community spirit, significant growth, and tangible local and international impact.
A Year of Expansion and Fundraising Success
The club, powered by its dedicated team of 16 members, saw its ranks grow with three new recruits in 2025. Its support network, the Friends of Rotary, expanded impressively to 62 individuals. The ambitious target for the coming year is to reach 25 full members and 100 Friends. Through nine dedicated collection days at locations like Tesco and Parc Llandudno, the group raised substantial funds for its Community Chest grant scheme and helped launch the Friends of Llandudno Hospital initiative.
Direct Impact on Local and Global Causes
The fundraising efforts translated into direct support for the community. £2,000 in grants was awarded to seven local organisations from the Community Chest. The club's Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest Programme, run in partnership with Save a Life Cymru, ensured town defibrillators were maintained and ready for use. Furthermore, the Ysgol Aberconwy Mental Health Project provided practical guidance to pupils, parents, and carers.
On a global scale, the club committed £1,000 annually to The Rotary Foundation, which supports worldwide initiatives. This included a £500 donation to the ongoing End Polio Now campaign. The club's reach extended to supporting schools in Africa, demonstrating a commitment to international fellowship.
Fellowship, Challenge, and Community Presence
The year was also marked by camaraderie and personal challenge. Five members tested their limits by running the Manchester Marathon and completing the Bala Challenge to raise vital funds. Social events flourished, from a 73-guest Charter Night and a Greek Night to historical walks and a new Christmas wreath project.
The club maintained a visible and supportive presence at key town events, standing with the community at the Remembrance Sunday service, the Town Fireworks, and the Christmas Parade. Members also lent their time to assist the local Parkinson's Society group.
With a clear vision for 2026, the Rotary Club of Llandudno is inviting new members to join its mission. Anyone interested in giving back to the Llandudno area is encouraged to find out more. For further information on how to get involved, please visit www.llandudnorotary.org.
