Mold Business Boosts Mental Health and Family Charities with £2,000 Donation
Mold Business Donates £2,000 to Mental Health and Family Charities

Mold-Based Chemical Manufacturer Synthite Awards Vital Funding to Local Charities

Two essential charities providing critical mental health support and family welfare services in Flintshire have received a significant financial boost from a long-standing Mold business. Synthite Ltd, a chemical manufacturer based at Alyn Works on Denbigh Road, has donated £1,000 each to North East Wales Mind and Home-Start Flintshire.

Funding Source and Corporate Commitment

The £2,000 total donation was made possible through a grant from Synthite's parent company, Tennants Consolidated Ltd, specifically allocated for community causes. This initiative underscores the firm's dedication to supporting local organisations that address pressing social needs. Synthite, which has operated in Mold since the 1950s and employs 120 people, previously supported North East Wales Mind in 2023, demonstrating an ongoing partnership.

North East Wales Mind: Enhancing Mental Health Outreach

North East Wales Mind will utilise the donation to sustain its comprehensive community outreach programmes. These services are designed to assist individuals grappling with mental health challenges through a variety of tailored activities.

  • Weekly drop-in events offering advice and companionship.
  • Walk and talk sessions to encourage socialisation and connection.
  • Emotional support groups and mindfulness meditation sessions.
  • Private counselling and cost-of-living advice to help manage finances.

Natasha Wait, Business Development and Income Generation Manager at North East Wales Mind, expressed profound gratitude: "We sincerely thank Synthite for its commitment to mental health and its invaluable support in bridging the gap within our communities. The donation will help us maintain vital services from drop-in sessions offering advice and companionship to specialised groups addressing more complex needs."

Home-Start Flintshire: Strengthening Family Wellbeing

Home-Start Flintshire, a registered charity, offers early intervention services to families facing diverse challenges such as isolation, disabilities, mental health issues, bereavement, and financial difficulties. In 2025 alone, the organisation supported 219 families through its network of approximately 40 volunteers.

Key programmes include weekly home visits, Dad Matters gatherings, baby groups, and stay and play sessions at Deeside Leisure Centre. Additionally, the charity runs six-week play and learn sessions for children aged two-and-a-half to five, aiming to build confidence and ease the transition into primary school.

Sharon Windsor, Chief Officer of Home-Start Flintshire, highlighted the importance of such business support: "As a registered charity, we're reliant on external funding streams to operate, and with an acceptance rate of around 20 per cent for grants and tenders, securing financial aid is highly competitive. It's been great to receive support from a local business like Synthite so we can continue to serve the needs of community members across Flintshire and hopefully recruit more volunteers to expand our capacity throughout the region."

Corporate Perspective and Community Call to Action

Sarah Jones, Assistant Accountant at Synthite, emphasised the company's pride in contributing to these causes: "We're proud to help both North East Wales Mind and Home-Start Flintshire continue their important work. We're always eager to give back to local charitable causes whenever possible and look forward to seeing the difference the contributions will make. I'd encourage other businesses to consider offering their support to these organisations, which provide relevant, tailored services to residents within the county."

This donation not only provides immediate financial relief but also reinforces the critical role of local businesses in fostering community resilience and wellbeing across Flintshire.
