The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) has confirmed that state pensioners will receive payments of £965 in September. This amount corresponds to the new full weekly rate of £241.30, paid over a four-week period, and applies to individuals on the new state pension.
The new state pension is available to men born after 1951 and women born after 1953. Retirees can determine their usual payment day by checking the two-digit code at the end of their National Insurance number.
Payment Days Based on National Insurance Numbers
The DWP has published a clear guide linking National Insurance number endings to payment days: numbers ending 00 to 19 are paid on Monday, 20 to 39 on Tuesday, 40 to 59 on Wednesday, 60 to 79 on Thursday, and 80 to 99 on Friday.
The DWP explained: “You’ll be asked when you want to start getting your State Pension when you claim. Your first payment will be no later than 5 weeks after the date you choose. You’ll get a full payment every 4 weeks after that.”
“You might get part of a payment before your first full payment. The letter confirming your State Pension payment will tell you what to expect. The day your pension is paid depends on your National Insurance number. You might be paid earlier if your normal payment day is a bank holiday.”
April Increase Details
In April, the government announced a 4.8% increase in the full rate of the new State Pension, in line with average earnings growth, raising it from £230.25 to £241.30 per week. The full basic State Pension also rose from £176.45 to £184.90 per week.
The Standard Minimum Guarantee in Pension Credit increased by the same 4.8%, reaching £238.00 per week for single pensioners and £363.25 per week for couples.
Other Benefit Increases
Most working-age benefits and other benefits for people below State Pension age increased by 3.8% from April. This includes Statutory Payments such as Statutory Sick Pay and Statutory Maternity Pay, as well as personal allowances for Income Support, Housing Benefit, and Jobseeker’s Allowance.
These changes mean that eligible retirees on the new state pension will see the full £965 monthly payment in September, reflecting the increased weekly rate.
