Supporters gathered for the annual Morecambe Bay walk in aid of Derian House Children’s Hospice, marking three decades of this beloved fundraising tradition. On April 25, a total of 91 walkers and 10 dogs successfully completed the seven-mile crossing from Arnside to Grange-over-Sands, wading through sand and tidal waters to raise £10,651.83 for the charity.
Community Spirit on Display
The event brought together families supported by the hospice, local supporters, and fundraisers preparing for future challenges. Among them was Andy Privett, whose 12-year-old son Jacob receives care from Derian House. Andy participated alongside family members and their dog, using the walk as training for a forthcoming Sahara Desert trek in aid of the charity.
A Vital Fundraiser
Organisers noted that the walk remains one of the hospice’s most popular fundraisers, uniting the community while raising essential funds for care services. Walkers are encouraged to take part for free, with a suggested fundraising target of £50.
Derian House Children’s Hospice provides specialist care and support for babies, children, and young people with life-limiting conditions across the North West, relying heavily on public donations to continue its vital work.
