Witham's Member of Parliament, Priti Patel, took time from her festive schedule to support a local Christmas campaign aimed at bringing joy to families in need. The visit took place on Friday, November 21, at Vaycay Luxury Travel on Newland Street.
Spreading Festive Cheer in the Community
During her visit, the MP donated a substantial bag filled with toys, gifts, and games. These donations are destined for children and families within the Witham community who might otherwise face a bleak Christmas. The items will be distributed by the charity Home-Start Essex, which provides free, vital support to parents and children across the county.
Priti Patel expressed her personal connection to the cause, stating: "Home-Start Essex is an organisation that is quite personal and close to my heart. They help families and children when they need a little bit of extra care and support." She highlighted the ongoing generosity of the Witham community, noting its big-hearted spirit when it comes to supporting charities and volunteering.
A Partnership for Positive Impact
The Christmas campaign is a joint initiative between the travel agency and the charity. Vaycay Luxury Travel, which opened its doors in Witham in January 2024, launched the drive last month. Their goal is to put smiles on the faces of local families requiring an extra helping hand during the festive season.
Christine Taylor, a consultant at the family-run business, said: "We're extremely thankful to Priti Patel for visiting us and supporting our Christmas campaign... As a family-run business in the heart of Witham High Street, we're always looking for new ways to connect and support the local community."
How to Get Involved
The campaign is accepting donations until Friday, December 6. All donors will receive a raffle ticket for a chance to win a £150 Christmas hamper as a thank you. Jackie Creak from Home-Start Essex's fundraising team praised the incredible donations received so far, confirming they will bring much-needed joy to supported families.
