Norfolk Sight Loss Charity Receives £1,500 Donation from Housebuilder for 220th Anniversary
Norfolk Sight Loss Charity Gets £1,500 Donation for 220th Year

Vision Norfolk, one of Norfolk’s oldest independent charities, has received a £1,500 donation from Barratt and David Wilson Homes Anglia as it marks its 220th anniversary. The contribution will directly fund the charity’s community hubs and frontline services, which are vital for maintaining equipment coordination and supporting activity programmes that reduce isolation for those with sight loss.

Supporting Over 4,000 People

Andrew Morter from Vision Norfolk said: “Our work is a lifeline for the more than 4,000 people we currently support. We provide everything from home visits to specialised sports clubs and creative workshops. As we move into our 220th year, our goal is to expand our reach even further into rural Norfolk. We want to ensure that, no matter where someone lives in the county, they have access to the expert advice and community connection they need to navigate life with a visual impairment.”

220 Challenge to Raise £220,000

To mark its milestone year, the charity has launched a '220 Challenge' inviting local businesses to help reach a target of £220,000. Participants can take on a sponsored walk of 220 steps a day, do 220 star jumps, or set a goal to raise £220. Donations can be made via the charity’s Just Giving page.

Andrew added: “As an independent local charity, we rely entirely on the generosity of the community and our corporate partners. When large-scale developers like Barratt and David Wilson Homes back a local cause, it sends a powerful message about the importance of investing in the wellbeing of the local community. It not only provides the financial means to keep our doors open but also raises vital awareness.”

Barratt Redrow Foundation’s Legacy

The donation was made through a Community Fund scheme via The Barratt Redrow Foundation, which is celebrating its fifth anniversary in 2026. Since its launch, the foundation has committed £20 million to charities and good causes, supporting more than 2,000 different charities across the UK.

Simon Wood from Barratt and David Wilson Homes Anglia said: “Vision Norfolk is a fantastic cause dedicated to supporting people experiencing sight loss in Norfolk and we are pleased to offer our support. We hope the charity enjoys this momentous year and we wish it all the best in its 220 Challenge.”
