A pregnant cat who was cruelly abandoned in a dog crate in a Birmingham alley is now searching for a loving new home. The four-year-old black cat, named Nadia, was discovered in Maypole, along with five four-week-old kittens that were not her own, and two older kittens aged five and six months. Volunteers from Cats Protection West Midlands Cat Centre found the group and took them to their site in Hollywood for immediate care.
A Harrowing Rescue
Paula Beswick, deputy centre manager at Cats Protection West Midlands Cat Centre, described the ordeal: “It’s been an incredibly hard journey for Nadia who was heavily pregnant when she was found nursing the five kittens who were not hers.” Nadia gave birth to three more kittens at the centre, but tragically, none survived, most likely due to the stress of being dumped. Despite this, Nadia is described as a gentle-natured cat who loves treats, sunbathing, and sitting in her favourite cardboard box.
Kittens Ready for Adoption
The five kittens Nadia was nursing are now eight weeks old and have been named Nina, Navy, Noah, Nolan, and Nico. This playful bunch will also need homes very soon. Sadly, one of the older kittens, Fiji, had to be put to sleep due to multiple life-limiting illnesses. Her bonded companion, Maui, a tabby, is now looking for a quiet home without children or other pets, as he is timid but friendly.
A Plea Against Dumping
Paula issued a strong message against dumping animals: “It is never acceptable to dump cats and we beg people to get in touch with us, a fellow rescue organisation or vet before they reach crisis point. We know times can be tough and we won’t judge. We will work with owners who are having a hard time to find the best option for their cats and kittens.” She added that without time to plan, the centre faces extreme difficulty in finding space, which is unfair to other cats waiting for care.
Ready for Forever Homes
Nadia, the kittens, and Maui will arrive at their new homes vet-checked, neutered, vaccinated, microchipped, and up to date with parasite treatments.
