Rainham retirees raise £700 for Dementia UK

Retirees at Bond Lodge in Rainham have raised £700 for Dementia UK following a retro summer sports day. The event, which brought together 20 local residents, featured classic garden games including the egg and spoon race, hula hoop bean bag toss, and tin can alley.

A Day of Classic Games and Community Spirit

Participants competed in the traditional activities with a healthy competitive spirit, according to Lodge Manager Charlotte Wilkinson. The day concluded with a trophy ceremony to celebrate the achievements of all who took part.

Churchill Living, which operates the development, doubled the initial £350 raised by the community through match funding from its charitable foundation.

Supporting Families Affected by Dementia

All proceeds from the event will go directly to Dementia UK, a national charity that supports families affected by the condition. Wilkinson explained that the charity was chosen because its cause deeply resonates with residents at Bond Lodge.

“Everyone had a great time at our charity sports day. The teams had a healthy competitive spirit, and a lot of fun was had,” she said. “We selected Dementia UK as our chosen charity as their cause deeply resonates with our residents. We’re grateful for such generous donations and the match funding by the Churchill Foundation which doubled the amount we were able to donate to such an amazing cause.”

Gratitude for Donations and Participation

Wilkinson also expressed thanks to the residents and donors. “The community at Bond Lodge are such a lovely group, and we’re grateful to all the residents who took part, and those who donated,” she added.

The £700 raised will enable Dementia UK to continue providing specialist support to families impacted by dementia, a condition affecting many older people across the UK.
