A prominent housebuilder has smashed its own fundraising records to deliver a life-changing cash injection for Somerset families facing difficult times. David Wilson Redrow South West has raised a staggering £84,651.40 for St Margaret’s Hospice Care, marking the largest single donation the company has ever achieved for a charity partner.
How the Record Sum Was Raised
The incredible sum will directly support the hospice's mission to provide expert, compassionate end-of-life and palliative care across the region. For over four decades, the charity has offered these vital medical and emotional services completely free of charge to adults and their families throughout Somerset. It delivers holistic and compassionate hospice care with its aim to empower more people who have progressive life-limiting illnesses to live fully and die with dignity.
St Margaret’s Hospice Care supported David Wilson Redrow South West colleague, Ben Smith, who passed away last year and has continued to support his family. The fundraising total was made possible through the support of staff, contractors, suppliers, and the local community. A packed calendar of events - from bake sales and raffles to sporting challenges and auctions - helped drive donations throughout the year.
Gala Event and Match Funding
The partnership culminated in a Gala event at Ashton Gate with the total including match funding generously donated by parent company, Barratt Redrow Developments. Michelle Long, corporate partnerships fundraiser at St Margaret’s Hospice, said: "We’re sincerely grateful to David Wilson Redrow South West, for choosing us as their charity partner. The energy, enthusiasm and generosity shown across the organisation has been truly remarkable. Their fundraising activities reflect a shared commitment to helping local people and families at the most difficult time in their lives. Their generosity has been inspiring, and we are grateful for everything they have done to support our hospice."
Impact on Hospice Services
Long added: "Support like this means that we can continue providing specialist in-patient care for individuals with complex needs, provide support for people in their own homes seven days a week, and day hospice services that are a lifeline to so many - now and always." Louise Ware, sales director for David Wilson Redrow South West, added: "This donation is particularly poignant as it is made in memory of our much-loved colleague. To have achieved our highest-ever charity total is a significant milestone and a credit to everyone involved. The funding will help ensure St Margaret’s can continue to deliver compassionate specialist care for families across Somerset, and we hope our donation will have a lasting impact on those who rely on the charity’s services."
