The manager of Jimmy Spice's on Broad Street has spoken of the heartbreaking moment she had to break the news to staff that their colleague and friend Anisha Chakraborty, 28, had died following a crash on Dartmouth Middleway.
Devastating News
Manager Shefali Karulkar discovered the shocking news on Sunday and waited until the end of the working day to tell her team of 20 staff members. "It was devastating, it was a really bad day for the entire staff," she told BirminghamLive. "At the end of the day, I told everyone and broke the news."
Anisha Chakraborty, an international student from India, was killed after being struck by a black Audi RSQ8 on Dartmouth Middleway on Saturday, May 30. She worked at Jimmy Spice's Broad Street branch in the city centre.
Arrest and Appeal
A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drugs. He was later released on bail.
Shefali has launched an appeal to repatriate Anisha's body and cover funeral costs, which has raised more than £2,500.
West Midlands Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact them on 101 quoting log 460 of May 30.
