A retired man from North Wales and his pet dog have raised more than £14,500 by walking the entire length of the Welsh coastline. The duo took on the 870-mile journey in memory of the walker's late wife, who received end-of-life care at a local hospice.
Paul Jones and his cocker spaniel, Bobby, set off from Chepstow in early May to complete the Wales Coast Path. The epic challenge came to an end on July 18 as a tribute to Paul's wife, Debbie, who passed away 10 years ago. Debbie loved the outdoors and shared many happy memories exploring scenic Welsh coastal spots with her husband. Paul decided to spend his first summer in retirement giving back to the charity that supported his family.
A Journey of Love and Gratitude
The couple spent many years visiting favourite destinations together including Tenby, Barmouth, and Morfa Bychan. Paul said that the hospice took his family in and provided essential care when they needed it most. Paul added: "Deb was a proud Welshwoman and I knew the challenge should be Wales-based and in the outdoors, which she loved. So, with all that in mind, the choice of walking the complete Wales Coast Path and camping along the way was the perfect one for myself and Bobby, my working cocker spaniel partner."
Community Support Along the Way
Throughout the long trek, Paul and Bobby were overwhelmed by the kindness of people who offered them food and a bed for the night. They completed the route by heading around Anglesey and back along the North Wales coast towards home.

Emma Clarke, individual giving fundraiser at Nightingale House Hospice, commented: "To take on an 870-mile journey in memory of Debbie is a truly remarkable achievement, and to have already raised more than £14,500 is simply fantastic!
