Rochdale Riverside has launched a new charity initiative called 'Pairs with Purpose' to support vulnerable people in the local community. The appeal benefits Cold Hands Warm Hearts, the shopping destination's chosen charity of the year, and seeks donations of brand-new socks and underwear for adults. These essential items will be distributed directly to individuals experiencing homelessness across the Rochdale area.
Year-Round Need for Basic Essentials
While support for homeless charities often peaks during colder winter months, the challenges faced by those sleeping rough persist throughout the year. Clean, basic clothing essentials like socks and underwear remain in constant demand regardless of the season, as they are critical for hygiene and dignity.
High Demand for New Items
Jamie, co-founder of Cold Hands Warm Hearts, explained the ongoing need: "Cold Hands Warm Hearts volunteers give away more than 50 pairs of socks and underwear every Monday. As these items must be brand new for hygiene reasons, they are constantly in demand. We’re delighted Rochdale Riverside have launched this appeal to support the charity. All donations collected through the ‘Pairs with Purpose’ appeal will go directly to those in need."
How to Donate
Rachel Byrne, centre manager at Rochdale Riverside, encouraged visitors to contribute: "Whether you pick up an extra pack while shopping in our stores, or purchase the items elsewhere and bring them along the next time you visit, every donation will make a real difference and is greatly appreciated." Donations can be dropped off at the Rochdale Riverside management office, located on the first floor opposite Putt & Play.
