Rock Choir and Brass Band Charity Concert Raises £2,000 for NICU
Rock Choir and Brass Band Raise £2,000 for NICU

Rock Choir in Hereford and South Worcestershire joined forces with Avonbank (Evesham) Brass Band for a special charity performance on Sunday, June 21, 2026, at The Henrician Theatre in Evesham. The event raised nearly £2,000, with proceeds shared between the Worcestershire Royal Hospital Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) and the brass band to support their trip to the National Finals in York.

A Unique Collaboration

More than 120 Rock Choir members shared the stage with musicians from the brass band for 'Rock and Brass', astounding audience members with uplifting songs. The 30-strong brass band played an eclectic mix of rock and pop before the choir burst into memorable tracks like 'Space Man', 'Bridge Over Troubled Water', and 'I Don’t Want to Miss A Thing'.

Jacob Ashworth, choir leader, said: "Our Rockies said it was a new and fun experience as they were able to perform with a local brass band. Everyone was very happy to be part of the big vision of bringing Rock Choir together with the band. When we sang 'Video Killed The Radio Star', that was our real crowning glory. The performance played to a busy house, there was a lot of local pride in the room."

Fundraising for a Personal Cause

The Worcestershire Royal Hospital NICU was chosen as a beneficiary for a deeply personal reason. Jacob added: "My eldest son, who is now three-years-old, was in the Worcestershire NICU for four days when he was born and he was so well looked after. We decided it would be good to fundraise for the unit."

Behind the Scenes

Plenty of preparation went on behind the scenes to make the show a success. Rockies worked hard practising their repertoire for the afternoon concert at the theatre in Victoria Avenue, Evesham, while the brass band prepared to amaze the audience with their varied programme.
