Rock Choir Raises £5,000 for Cancer Charity in Shrewsbury

Rock Choir, the award-winning local singing group, raised £5,000 for Lingen Davies Cancer Support by hosting two special fundraising concerts in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. The musical events, held on Saturday, June 20, drew packed audiences to support the healthcare charity that has helped an estimated 100,000 people since its launch in 1979.

Concerts Feature Special Guests and Memorable Performances

The dual performances welcomed friends and family to the venue, where the choir performed a wide variety of tracks. Special guests included professional soprano Joanna Cooke and the Toscana Strings quintet. A highlight of the evening came when the male members of the group entertained the crowds with their own version of a famous rock song.

Rock Choir Leader Rowan Richards expressed pride in the group's efforts. “The Rockies worked so hard, I was so proud of them. I’ve had so many comments and messages from people saying what a fantastic day it was and how emotional and uplifting it felt to be there. Rockies said it was a joyful extravaganza and it was a privilege to be part of the shows,” Richards said.

Funds to Support Cancer Patients Across the Region

The £5,000 raised will help Lingen Davies Cancer Support continue delivering vital emotional and physical support to patients navigating a difficult diagnosis. The charity, originally launched in 1979, aims to bring specialist medical care closer to residents living in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and Mid Wales. Karen Roberts, Community Fundraiser at Lingen Davies Cancer Support, thanked the choir. “Every pound raised by Rock Choir will help us continue making a positive difference for those living with and beyond a cancer diagnosis in Shropshire, Telford and Wrekin, and Mid Wales. We're extremely grateful to all the choirs that joined together to raise life-changing funds for Lingen Davies, enabling us to support people in our community at a time it's most needed. Thank you,” Roberts said.
