A Rutland husband is driving a distinctive yellow-and-black three-wheeler Tuk Tuk 120 miles to raise money for a local hospice that cared for his late wife.
Journey details and fundraising goal
John Smith, 77, will pilot his vehicle, nicknamed “The Wasp,” from Ryhall to Hunstanton and back in support of Sue Ryder Thorpe Hall Hospice. The hospice provided specialist end-of-life care for John’s wife, Stella, during the final stages of her illness. Thorpe Hall is the only unit in Peterborough offering specialist end-of-life care and support for families.
John wants to show his gratitude to the team who looked after both him and his wife. He hopes his eye-catching ride, which has an average speed of 35mph, will help him reach his £3,000 fundraising target.
Personal motivation
“The staff really cared for Stella and they equally supported me. I want to raise as much as I can to show my gratitude,” John said. “The Wasp always attracts a lot of attention and with an average speed of 35mph, people will get plenty of chances to spot me and, I hope, help the charity. My target is £3,000.”
Stella was a former teacher who served on the parish council and at St John’s Church. She passed away at the age of 70 following her battle with cancer.
