Sign Up for Deal's 21st Annual Crocus Walk 2026

One of Deal's most cherished spring traditions is preparing to return, as the town announces the 21st annual Crocus Walk in aid of Breast Cancer Now. This vibrant community event, masterminded by local fundraiser and charity ambassador Kerry Banks BEM, unites people of all ages for a colourful stroll with a profoundly important mission.

Event Details and How to Take Part

The 2026 Crocus Walk will be held on Saturday, April 11. Check-in opens from 10am at the large gravel car park on Kingsdown Road in Walmer, Kent. Entry is priced at £10 and is open to walkers of all ages and abilities, emphasising its friendly and inclusive nature rather than being a competitive race.

At 10.30am, participants will gather at Julie’s Bench, located above the car park, for a fun warm-up session led by pilates instructor Paula Murphy. The walk will then commence from this poignant starting point.

A Scenic Route for a Serious Cause

The picturesque walking route will guide participants through Kingsdown and up onto the iconic White Cliffs, proceeding to the Dover Patrol Memorial before heading into St Margaret’s. A welcome halfway stop will be provided by sponsors Bluebirds Whitecliffs in the village.

The return journey travels through the beautiful surrounding countryside, finishing back at Julie’s Bench. Well-behaved dogs are welcome but must remain on a lead throughout the event.

Legacy, Prizes, and How to Register

Every walker will receive a commemorative certificate and medal, kindly supplied by sponsor Karen Essam. A prize for the highest sponsorship raised has been generously donated by long-term supporters The White House, Kent, on Victoria Road in Deal.

Kerry Banks BEM reflected on the event's origins, stating: "This was the very first fundraiser I undertook for the charity back in 2006, when our friend Julie Mortimer was going through secondary breast cancer again. Julie sadly passed away in 2010, and the bench is part of her legacy."
