An invaluable community group has been selected as one of the Mayor of Winchester's official charities for the coming year. St John Ambulance Hampshire and the Isle of Wight has received this prestigious recognition, acknowledging the organisation's ongoing contribution to volunteering and community support across the region.
Central Hampshire Network's Role
The Central Hampshire Network, part of the county, supports a wide range of local events, from garden fairs and half marathons to major occasions including Winchester's annual firework celebrations. Over the next year, the charity will also work alongside Winchester Hospice, supporting the Purple Night Walk and promoting community education initiatives.
Cadet Volunteer Appointment
In addition to the charity's selection, cadet volunteer Ryley Dixon has been appointed as one of the Mayor of Winchester's Cadets. Ryley joined St John Ambulance in July 2021 and has progressed through several youth development roles, including cadet community first aider, cadet sergeant, and Hampshire and Isle of Wight youth social media and digital content lead.
Ceremonial Involvement
The appointments follow the Mayor Making ceremony in Winchester and the Mayor's celebratory service at Winchester Cathedral, where Ryley represented St John Ambulance as part of the official civic proceedings. Speaking about his appointment, Ryley said he was honoured to be selected, adding that his time with St John Ambulance has given him valuable skills, confidence and lasting friendships. He said he looks forward to representing both the organisation and the Central Hampshire Network throughout the year.
Official Statements
Fizz Thompson, county commissioner for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight, said: "We are very honoured to have been part of these special and historic ceremonies and look forward to working with the Mayor to raise awareness and fundraise for the next year." Those who are inspired by Ryley's story or would like to find out more about the impact St John Ambulance makes in the community can visit the charity's website for further details.
