People from across South Oxfordshire can now sign up for an uplifting evening of remembrance to raise vital funds for a healthcare charity. The special night walk will help ensure more local people can access expert end-of-life care and support when they need it most.
The popular event returns to a stunning country estate in the autumn, where friends and families will walk together in memory of someone special. Participants can choose to tackle either a five-kilometre or 10-kilometre route through the beautiful grounds. The evening will begin with live music, refreshments, and a fun group warm-up before the walkers set off under the stars. Many people choose to wear brightly coloured outfits, glitter, and glow sticks as they follow the beautifully lit path.
Walkers will be treated to breathtaking night views across the River Thames during their journey. They will also have the opportunity to visit a dedicated remembrance area where they can write a special message to a loved one.
Star Dedication and Remembrance
Walkers will be invited to dedicate a star in memory of someone special. Ashni Parmar, regional fundraising manager, said: “Whether you have a personal connection to Sue Ryder or simply want to support a cause that matters to you and your community, this is your moment to make a difference. You’ll be part of a warm, joyful atmosphere filled with stories, reflection, laughter and the chance to feel part of something bigger.”
Last year, the charity provided more than 655,000 hours of expert care to patients and families across the region. The money raised from the upcoming walk will help the charity continue its vital work so that no one has to face death or grief alone.
Ashni added: “Last year, Sue Ryder provided more than 655,000 hours of expert care, including through Sue Ryder Palliative Care Hub South Oxfordshire, thanks to the support of people signing up to events like Starlight Hike. Every moment made a difference. By taking part and raising sponsorship, you’ll help ensure even more people receive the expert care and grief support they need because no one should face death or grief alone.”
Local Business Support
Local businesses have also come forward to sponsor the event and show their support for the cause. Business leaders have expressed their pride in being involved with such an important community gathering.
Ross Arbuckle, director and partner at Azego, said: “We’re proud to be supporting Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Thames Valley again this year – it's such a special event that unites our community.”
Jonathan Fraser, director of Fraser’s Budgens, commented: "We've loved supporting Sue Ryder and our team enjoyed attending Starlight Hike last year, so when the opportunity arose to support the event further, we jumped at it. We are really honoured to be involved."
Rachel Eden, director at Holy Brook Accountants, added: "Sue Ryder provides incredible support to families during the most difficult time, and we're delighted to support their work. We'd love to see as many people as possible getting behind this year's hike."
