Starlight Hike Thames Valley Returns for End-of-Life Care

The popular Starlight Hike Thames Valley is returning to the Mapledurham Estate this autumn, inviting walkers to participate in an evening of remembrance to support expert end-of-life care from Sue Ryder. Participants can choose between a 5km or 10km route through the estate grounds, with the event featuring live music, refreshments, and a warm-up before walking along a beautifully lit path by the River Thames.

Event Details and Purpose

Scheduled for Saturday, October 24, the event aims to celebrate the memory of loved ones while raising funds for Sue Ryder's palliative care services. Ashni Parmar, regional fundraising team manager for Sue Ryder, stated: "Whether you have a personal connection to Sue Ryder or simply want to support a cause that matters to you and your community, this is your moment to make a difference. You'll be part of a warm, joyful atmosphere filled with stories, reflection, laughter and the chance to feel part of something bigger."

Walkers will have access to a dedicated remembrance area where they can pay tribute to those they have lost. The event is open to all, with discounts for teams of five or more and early bird tickets available for those who register before the end of July.

Impact of Fundraising

Parmar highlighted the impact of such events: "Last year, Sue Ryder provided more than 655,000 hours of expert care, including from Sue Ryder Duchess of Kent Hospice in Reading thanks to the support of people signing up to events like Starlight Hike. Every moment made a difference. By taking part and raising sponsorship, you'll help ensure even more people receive the expert care and grief support they need because no one should face death or grief alone."

Community Support

The annual fundraiser is supported by local businesses including Azego, Fraser's Budgens, and Holy Brook Accountants. Ross Arbuckle, director and partner at Azego, commented: "We're proud to be supporting Sue Ryder Starlight Hike Thames Valley again this year – it's such a special event that unites our community." Jonathan Fraser, director of Fraser's Budgens, added: "We've loved supporting Sue Ryder and our team enjoyed attending Starlight Hike last year, so when the opportunity arose to support the event further, we jumped at it. We are really honoured to be involved." Rachel Eden, director at Holy Brook Accountants, said: "Sue Ryder provides incredible support to families during the most difficult time, and we're delighted to support their work. We'd love to see as many people as possible getting behind this year's hike."
