People across West Yorkshire can now sign up for an uplifting evening of remembrance at a brand-new venue to raise vital funds for end-of-life care. The popular annual walking challenge invites friends and families to complete a special route to honour the memory of someone special.
Event Details and Route
The money raised from the evening will support Sue Ryder, a leading national healthcare charity, to ensure more people can access expert medical support. Participants will follow a route around the city before passing through the tranquil grounds of a local hospice. Walkers can enjoy live music and a high-energy warm-up session before setting off on either a five-kilometre or 10-kilometre route. The event is being held at a new location for this year to help bring the local community together.
Organiser and Supporter Quotes
Anna Murphy, Regional Fundraising Team Manager for Sue Ryder, said: “Whether you have a personal connection to Sue Ryder or simply want to support a cause that matters to you and your community, this is your moment to make a difference. You’ll be part of a warm, joyful atmosphere filled with stories, reflection, laughter and the chance to feel part of something bigger.”
She continued: “Last year, Sue Ryder provided more than 655,000 hours of expert care including from Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice thanks to the support of people signing up to events like Starlight Hike. Every moment made a difference. By taking part and raising sponsorship, you’ll help ensure even more people receive the expert care and grief support they need because no one should face death or grief alone.”
University of Leeds Support
Professor Shearer West, Vice-Chancellor and President of the University of Leeds, said: “At the University of Leeds, we are committed to making a positive difference to the communities we serve and proud to support Sue Ryder's Starlight Hike.” She added: “This inspiring event brings people together in remembrance, compassion and hope while raising vital funds for expert end-of-life care and bereavement support.”
She continued: “We look forward to welcoming participants onto our wonderful campus and encourage everyone who can, to take part, to help ensure more people across our region receive the care and support they deserve when they need it most.”
