The Sunshine Fund is urging supporters to book quickly for its upcoming fundraising events, with spaces filling fast. All proceeds go towards providing specialist equipment for children living with disabilities, additional needs, and terminal illness in the North East.
Some events have fundraising targets attached, while others are covered by ticket or entry costs. The charity is offering three main events over the coming months, each designed to appeal to different audiences.
Sunshine Zipline: Soar Across the Tyne
On Friday, August 28, thrill-seekers can take part in the Sunshine Zipline, starting on Newcastle Quayside and ending on Baltic Square. Participants will be lifted 150 feet in the air by a crane before flying 350 feet across the River Tyne at speeds of up to 30mph.
Entry is discounted to £40 per person, and each challenger pledges to raise at least £50. The event is open to individuals, groups, or corporate teams. Ponteland Duck Race: Family Fun on September 6
The annual Duck Race returns to Ponteland Park on Sunday, September 6, promising a fantastic day out. Activities include raffles, games, prizes, kids fairground rides, a market with local traders, and food and drink stalls. The main attraction is the duck race along the river.
Duck race entries cost £2 each or £10 for a duck in each of the five races. They can be purchased on the day or online at www.thesunshinefund.org/duckrace. Winners will be contacted after the event, with cash prizes for first, second, and third place in each race. Two Business Boat Races will kick off the event, inviting local organisations to compete for a luxury hamper.
Halloween Ghost Tour at Chillingham Castle
Looking ahead to Halloween, the Sunshine Fund will host a private ghost tour at Chillingham Castle in Northumberland, described as the UK's most haunted castle. Led by resident historian and ghost-hunter Richard, the tour uses his expertise to make contact with spirits. Tickets are £65 and can be purchased at https://bit.ly/chilli-castle. The event has limited capacity and takes attendees to areas not usually open to the public. Organisers warn it is not for the fainthearted.
