The British Heart Foundation (BHF) store in Sutton Coldfield's Red Rose Centre will close permanently in January 2027, leaving heartbroken locals campaigning to save the beloved charity shop.
Closure Details and Community Response
The BHF store is one of 150 shops nationwide facing closure as the charity restructures its retail network. The Royal Sutton Coldfield Business Improvement District announced the closure on Facebook, asking residents if they would support relocating the shop elsewhere in the town centre.
Dozens of residents have voiced support for keeping the charity presence in Sutton Coldfield. Deborah Scrivens said: "We have supported the shop for the last 20 years, donating and buying. Sutton needs this store and BHF needs Sutton."
Relocation Hopes
Many locals are calling for the shop to be moved to a more prominent location to increase footfall. Wendie Jo commented: "It's tucked away out of sight now that most of the centre has closed, a more prominent location could help boost sales for the shop and charity."
Chris James added: "A relocation is a must, it's more than a shop for some; its a community, a way of living, connect with like minded people."
Charity's Rationale
BHF plans to close around 90 stores by March next year, with the remainder shutting by March 2028. The charity cites challenging trading conditions and the need to fund vital cardiovascular research.
