Thousands raised for children of devoted West Midlands PC

Thousands of pounds have been raised to support the children of a West Midlands police officer described as a 'devoted' father. Jim Dinan died on August 8 at the age of 50 after more than 20 years of service as a police officer.

Dinan leaves behind a wife and two children, aged 18 and 13. A GoFundMe page has been set up to raise funds for the teenagers following the loss of their father.

Colleagues pay tribute to Jim Dinan

West Midlands Police Federation secretary Chris James, who worked on the same team as Dinan, paid tribute to his colleague. “Jim dedicated his life to serving others, carrying out his duties with courage, humility, and unwavering professionalism,” James said.

“He was respected by his colleagues and valued by the communities he served. To many, he was the kind of officer who could always be relied upon, offering support, guidance, and encouragement whenever it was needed. I saw first-hand the qualities that made him so well-regarded.”

James added that Dinan was always supportive of those around him, generous with his time, and willing to help colleagues whenever they needed him. “He also had a great sense of humour and was someone who could always be relied upon to raise a smile, even on the most challenging days.”

Family at the centre of his world

“His friendship, camaraderie, and quiet support meant a great deal to many of us, and he will be deeply missed,” James continued. “Above all else, Jim was devoted to his family. He leaves behind his wife and their two children, aged 18 and 13, who were the centre of his world.”

“Our thoughts and deepest condolences are with them during this incredibly difficult time. Those who knew Jim will remember not only his dedication to policing, but also his warmth, kindness, and ability to make others feel valued.”

James described Dinan as embodying the very best qualities of a police officer. “He touched the lives of countless people throughout his career. While words cannot ease the pain of this loss, we take comfort in the memories of a man who lived his life in service to others and whose legacy will continue through the many lives he touched.”

Fundraiser launched for teenagers

“Jim will be remembered with great affection, respect, and gratitude, and he will never be forgotten. Rest in peace, Jim. Your service, friendship, and dedication to others will never be forgotten,” James concluded.

The GoFundMe fundraiser continues to collect donations to support Dinan's two teenage children. Those wishing to contribute can find more information on the fundraising page.
