Valley CiDS Launches New Lighthouse Charity Shop in Whaley Bridge

Derbyshire-based charity Valley CiDS, which supports children, young people, and families across Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire, has proudly announced the opening of its newest Lighthouse Charity Shop in Whaley Bridge, Derbyshire. The shop was officially inaugurated by local dignitaries, including Whaley Bridge councillor Neville Clarke from High Peak Borough Council and Councillor Rachael Magowan from the Town Council.

Community Celebration and Inauguration

The opening ceremony was a vibrant community event, attended by children from Taxal and Fernilee CofE Primary School, who added a joyful atmosphere to the occasion. Located on Market Street, the main thoroughfare in Whaley Bridge, the shop welcomed a diverse group of visitors, including representatives from local churches, staff, volunteers, and trustees from Valley CiDS. This gathering highlighted the strong community spirit and support for the charity's mission.

CEO's Vision and Charity's Impact

Ian Tannahill, CEO of Valley CiDS, expressed enthusiasm about the new venture, stating, "We are excited to be opening our new Lighthouse Charity Shop in Whaley Bridge. As a charity, we are passionate about engaging and working with local communities and look forward to connecting with the people of Whaley Bridge and furthering our work in supporting local children, young people, and families." The shop aims to generate income to fund Valley CiDS's extensive programs, which include:

  • School-based activities and out-of-school clubs
  • Youth and community work services in local areas
  • Alternative education provision for young people who have disengaged from learning or face challenges in mainstream education

Expanding Reach and Volunteer Opportunities

Valley CiDS's youth team, the Blend Youth Project, already operates in partnership with organizations across the High Peak area, including Buxton, Glossop, and New Mills. The new shop invites the community to visit and meet the dedicated staff and volunteers, who are committed to providing a welcoming shopping experience with high-quality items such as clothing, bric-a-brac, soft furnishings, jewellery, books, toys, and electrical goods. Donations of these items are gratefully accepted to support the charity's efforts.

New volunteers are always needed, and the charity encourages locals to drop by, say hello, and consider joining their team. Valley CiDS's mission is to "build and strengthen community through serving, inspiring, and equipping children, young people, and families to develop their full potential in society." This new shop represents a significant step in achieving that goal by fostering local connections and raising essential funds.
