Warwick Rotary Presents Meritorious Service Award to Viv Morgan for Her Dedication to Bullied Children
Imagine transforming your own home into a sanctuary for children who have lost all hope. That is exactly what Viv Morgan did, and now Warwick Rotary has honoured her with its annual Meritorious Service Award for her incredible dedication to the pupils of Northleigh House.
A Remarkable Journey of Care and Support
Viv was recognised recently for her work setting up Northleigh House school for bullied children in Hatton. Community lead Jackie Crampton introduced Viv to the club as a remarkable woman who for 16 years has brought care and support to vulnerable young people who are unable to access mainstream education, many have felt so desperate they even attempted suicide.
The school offers a safe, calm and nurturing environment where children can reclaim their self-esteem and resume their education. Some return to mainstream schools, obtain qualifications and enter further education, thanks to the supportive framework provided.
Transforming Homes into Havens
Together with her husband Fred, in 2011 they turned their large home into a school, and have recently acquired another property - Northleigh Mill. This expansion allows them to reach more children in need, providing additional space and resources for their educational and emotional recovery.
Fred and Viv were presented with a Pride of Britain award in 2015, and Viv was awarded an MBE in 2019, highlighting the national recognition of their efforts. Viv says: ‘Childhood days should be happy, carefree and safe’, a motto that drives the school's mission.
Overcoming Barriers with Community Support
The school, whose motto is “Overcoming barriers for bullied children”, takes children between the ages of 11-19 and is a charitable trust receiving funding from the local authorities. The club has supported them from the start and recently gave another grant of £5,000 to help set up Northleigh Mill.
Local businesses and individuals also provide support for activities for the children, and their website has a wish-list if you would like to help. President Jon Wassall said that she is a worthy recipient of the club's annual Meritorious Award for her work, and presented her with a framed certificate and a cheque for £200 towards the school’s development.
This award underscores the vital role that community initiatives play in addressing critical social issues, offering hope and a brighter future for vulnerable youth.
