Women's Institutes Launch First Fundraising Programme with Outdoor Challenges
Women's Institutes Launch First Fundraising Programme

The National Federation of Women’s Institutes (NFWI) has unveiled its first-ever fundraising initiative, encouraging members to participate in outdoor challenges to raise funds that will help engage, empower, and connect more women within the movement.

Training for the Three Peaks Challenge

As part of the programme, NFWI-Wales team members Rhian and Kelly are currently training for the Three Peaks Challenge. Rhian shared her motivation, stating she signed up as a personal challenge and to demonstrate that age is no barrier to adventurous fundraising. She said: “Yes, it will probably hurt, but you have to keep active and have a go!”

Kelly, a former football player, revealed that an injury last year prompted her to seek new challenges. She added: “When this came up, as a chance to raise money for the organisation I love, I couldn’t resist.” Both are looking forward to completing the challenge together, with Rhian particularly excited about the views, the company, and even “a bag of chips at the end.”

High Demand for Three Peaks Challenge

Places for the Three Peaks Challenge have sold out due to high demand. However, other fundraising events remain open, including a night-time ascent of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) scheduled for August 1-2, 2026. Participants will climb Wales’ highest mountain overnight and witness the sunrise over the Eryri (Snowdonia) National Park, a designated Dark Sky Reserve that offers exceptional stargazing conditions.

Importance of Fundraising

The National Federation of Women’s Institutes emphasises that fundraising is vital to continue supporting members and delivering campaigns, as the organisation receives no government funding. Those interested can still register for upcoming challenges via the WI website.
