Young first aiders in Winchester have been recognised for their dedication and life-saving skills at a special ceremony celebrating the area's top youth volunteers. Members of the St John Ambulance Central and North Hampshire Volunteer Networks gathered for their yearly awards ceremony to celebrate the impressive accomplishments of six outstanding cadets.
Mayor of Winchester Presents Awards
Joining the celebration as guest of honour was the Mayor of Winchester, Jamie Scott, who has chosen St John Ambulance as his Charity of the Year 2026. During the evening, Mayor Scott presented awards to six cadets, praising their hard work and commitment over the past year in developing vital skills and knowledge. Addressing the audience, the Mayor shared what St John Ambulance means to him personally and highlighted the crucial importance of first aid awareness across the local community.
New Cadets Enrolled
The night also marked an inspiring milestone for three new cadets, who were officially enrolled into St John Ambulance after completing their Welcome Award this term. The newcomers formally made their promises to help those in need “in the service of humanity” and to uphold the organisation's code of chivalry.
Commissioner Praises Volunteers
Reflecting on the inspiring event, County Commissioner Fizz Thompson praised the volunteers for their hard work and team spirit: “It is with great pride that I was able to celebrate the work and service of the volunteers of the Central Hampshire Network. Behind every award and certificate given is a story of training, dedication, and a willingness to step forward when others need help most. Thank you to everyone who could not attend for the part they play in providing first aid, delivering emergency first aid education and working as part of the St John family.”
