A community group from Briton Ferry has been honoured with the highest award possible for volunteer groups across the United Kingdom.
The Prestigious Honour
The Friends of Jersey Park community group has been awarded the King's Award for Voluntary Service. This is the most prestigious award given to volunteer teams in the UK and forms a key part of the national honours system. The award is considered the equivalent of an MBE for volunteer groups, highlighting the exceptional standard of their work.
Celebrating Community Achievement
The official citation praised the group for 'Engaging with our community by holding events, working with schools and maintaining Jersey Park'. This recognition celebrates the volunteers' tireless efforts to improve their local environment and foster community spirit.
A spokesperson for the group expressed their gratitude, stating: "We are honoured to receive this award and wish to extend our thanks and congratulations to all of our volunteers."
A Testament to Partnership
The group was keen to share the credit for their success, acknowledging the vital support from their partners. They highlighted the "amazing partnership working" with local schools, Neath Port Talbot County Borough Council, and the Neath Port Talbot Community Volunteer Service.
The spokesperson added that their achievement is a "testament to the amazing community in which we live," also thanking the people of Briton Ferry and the surrounding areas for their continued support.
