Dudley Care Home to Become Flats for Mental Health Support
Dudley Care Home Conversion Approved

A former care home in Dudley is set to be transformed into self-contained flats for adults with mental health conditions. The site on Wellington Road, currently vacant, previously housed 33 bedrooms in a two-storey detached building. Dudley Council planners have approved a change of use to convert the building into 15 self-contained units, along with communal rooms and offices, to create a supported living facility.

Internal Reconfiguration Planned

A statement from Anjum Designs Ltd, supporting the application, noted: "The bulk of the proposal is an internal reconfiguration, with no external changes to the exterior of the building. The property sits well within the plot and provides good separation to neighbouring properties." The facility will accommodate up to 20 residents, supported by a minimum of eight staff during the day and at least one staff member at night. The building will be registered with the Care Quality Commission and leased to a care provider who will sub-let each unit.

Stourbridge Trees Removed for Safety

Meanwhile, 13 trees at Stourbridge Health and Social Care Centre in Amblecote are being felled after being deemed hazardous. A survey revealed several trees were damaged or diseased, including cases of Ash Dieback. A council report stated: "Having regard to the condition of the trees and their location adjacent to areas of regular public access, the proposed works are considered necessary in the interest of safety. The identified defects give rise to a foreseeable risk of failure and the works represent a reasonable and proportionate response." As a condition of permission, replacement trees must be planted within a year.
